RIP Ringmaster
Jer-ry!
RIP Jerry Springer, gone too soon at age 79.
He argued he gave voice to the voiceless, putting working class people on TV whom you'd never see otherwise.
His critics argued he contributed to the coarsening of the culture and elevation of the righteously stupid, paving the way to the MAGA crowd today.
Neither take is entirely wrong.
His movie, Ringmaster, in which he fails to stay in "character" to any degree, is an interesting time-capsule trainwreck. He leaned into his niche, and never acted above it.
